International Animal Protection Day
Today, October 4, we celebrate the International Animal Protection Day . Some may wonder what kind of change can be brought about by just one day a year when we remember the value and importance of preserving biodiversity - the truth is, one day a year is really not enough. So come with us and let's explore together a few simple ideas on how we can think about the welfare of animal species - every day!
In our everyday shopping, we have a really large choice: one of the important factors that influence our choice of products is checking whether the product has been tested on animals. Today, in the sea of offers, there is a really large selection of products that are not tested on animals, and in terms of quality, they very successfully compete with those that are. Choosing products that are not tested on animals is a small but valuable step in personal care for biodiversity.
After the desired product passes this first test, let's check its composition together. A lot of useful information is hidden in the list of ingredients, you just need to know a little better what each ingredient means.
Surfactants are often found in detergents because of their ability to reduce the surface tension of water, thereby helping the detergent to clean stains more easily. One of the groups of surfactants are anionic surfactants, and a member of this group is SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), which reduces water quality and even in low concentrations can be toxic to aquatic life: fish, invertebrates, algae and plankton, causing cellular damage.
Artificial bleaches , also present in commercial detergents, are chemicals that are not biodegradable - because of this property, they can remain in the environment for a very long time and negatively affect it. In the aquatic environment, they bioaccumulate in living organisms, starting with aquatic microorganisms, and due to their toxic properties, they can negatively affect the entire food web.
Synthetic fragrances have similar properties to bleach - they are not biodegradable, which is why they remain in nature and contaminate the aquatic environment in the long term. In addition, many synthetic fragrances are created from chemicals known as Persistent Organic Pollutants ( POPs). These substances can bioaccumulate in the fatty tissue of marine organisms, and given that they are often toxic, the bioaccumulation of synthetic odors in the tissue implies impaired development of fish and other aquatic organisms.
Many detergents, toothpastes, facial cleansers and other cosmetic products also contain microplastics , which significantly help in cleaning, but become extremely problematic in the environment due to their persistence and bioaccumulation in the tissues of living organisms.
By avoiding these ingredients, we help reduce the release of harmful, non-degradable or difficult-to-degrade substances into the environment. If you are interested in what other ingredients you can look out for when buying a new detergent, this blog post is for you!
Out of concern for human health, animal health and the health of the whole nature, our ECO laundry care line was created.
When choosing the ingredients, we carefully chose those ingredients that are completely biodegradable , which was important to us because they stay in the environment for a very short time and therefore do not pose any threat to the living world and natural ecosystems.
This is exactly why we use coconut and olive soap , natural and biodegradable ingredients, gentle on nature, and at the same time powerful in cleaning stains.
Our EKO line is not tested on animals and does not contain ingredients of animal origin - we are proud to have the official VEGAN certificate for this reason.
In addition, our products from the ECO line do not contain parabens, sulfates, dyes, synthetic fragrances or microplastics.
The EKO line consists of products that we proudly show to the world because they are a wonderful example of how we should not give up the quality and efficiency of products in exchange for our health and the well-being of the planet.
By thinking about the quality and composition of the products we use, we contribute to the health of our Earth; of our home, which is very worthy of our attention - every day.
